Review the World Bank's Gender Statistics page

Do some internet research to locate a nonprofit that works on global gender issues. Read their information, and see if you can find more. Write a blog about what you find. If you focus on one or two countries you can use the Gender Statistics. Write about how women are treated in your country. Are their lives improving in any way? What changes have they brought about? What changes have come from international organizations or nonprofits? 

            The first thing I found on this was that there was a significant problem with a global gender problem. I is important that women in developing countries become more self-reliant to pull them self’s out of poverty. By empowering women it will better the economy of the country of origin. Because if the balance of gender in the labor force will balance out and education can be spread over a larger amount of the population that will average out the country.

My country of origin is American and women have equal rights as men. But when I went to Iraq I saw many examples of women being mistreated and abused and all was social and legal. For a example men are allowed to punish their wife’s as they see fit. Also women have to walk 10 feet behind the male at all times and are not allowed to communicate with anybody out side of the family. Women are treated more like property and slaves then human beings.

Because of modern times many developing countries are banning old laws towrds women such as stoning and none equal rights. Such as in Pakistan, if a woman comets adultery she could be put to death and if the male comments the same crime he suffers fines and sometimes no punishment at all.

Many organizations are developing plans to develop laws that protect women and to develop equal rights. Such as world bank, that is developing a Gender action Plan (GAP).

BLOG ASSIGNMENT: Do a little online research on the problem of trafficking to add to your knowledge on the issue. There are numerous nonprofits that work to put an end to human trafficking. Post a blog entry about what you have learned. Use any form of trafficking from any country. What social justice changes do you think could help end trafficking?

            I have past experience with human trafficking with a previews government job. What I learned after doing more research on the web was that it has become a greater problem from American girls being trafficked in undeveloped countries. I believe that child trafficking is a major problem not for just Americans but people everywhere forms every social class. Because people can be abducted when visiting other countries that do not have a developed plan to counter the trafficking of people.

            The best way to develop a program that will work is for countries to work together and enforce registration of people. To do this people need to put pressure on the government and to continue supporting nonprofit organizations to put pressure on countries that do not employment proper laws on human registration.

Crime and Privelege

After watching and reading the deferent article on racial discrimination and privileges. Because of the high amount of minority’s in prison, people have associated violent crimes with blacks and Latin Americans. When comparing the case between Alex Wood and Tiron Brown, it shows how power, money and influences, can change the decision of sentencing dramatically. Because Wood can influence the decision of the people that will judge him, he can receive special treatment. For an example the juries personally know Mr. Wood and the status he had in the church and felt deeply for his situation when the almost fell on their knees. When asking myself if I would put my best friend in prison or a person that could negatively influence my life if I did not give him or her special privileges, I may negatively influence the court. But if there was a person that I did not know and had no influence in my life I would care less about the person and may judge a person incorrectly based on my first impression, such as Tiron Brown. People may perceive the rich and religious guilty free and the poor unworthy of better treatment.

The Human Behavior Experiments 1

From the day people start school abidance is the first thing the student learn. When to wake up when to do home work. Teachers may have different morals and values then the student, but the student has to obey his or her teacher or he or she will suffer consequence. In the marine corps there are a standers set of rules and if not obeyed the marine can receive a maximum punishment of death. the sixth general order states that he or she must obey all orders. "To recieve, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the Commanding Oficer, Officer Of the Day, and officers, and noncomissioned officers of the guard only" because of this form of training will do unspeakably things because he or she believes that this is acceptable norms.

Television and Socialization

Critics often charge that television's portrayal of violent and sexual themes powerfully affects its viewers, especially children. How much of a role do you think TV plays in the socialization process? Does it affect everyone to the same extent? Post your positions in your blog and defend your positions.


I believe that TV greatly influences it watchers special when its a younger viewer. I can say from person experience that television effects children, for a example my girlfriend is a full time nanny she watches a little girl that is 5 and boy that is 8. The little girl asked why did a guy try to give my girl friend his number when she already had a boyfriend. The nanny said he didn't know i had a boyfriend. The little girl replied yeah, because guy have to have a hot car and hot cloths to have a girlfriend. When asked where she came up with this, she said of thats what the people on the television show " the secret life of a teenager". With decades of research saying that children should not watch any tv under the age of three. teens that watch TV with sexual content have a high chance of teen pregnancy

Experiments

[ UPDATED]   Watch Two Videos: Zimbardo experiments and the Milgram experiment.  

After watching the two experiments, create a new blog. How are the experiments similar? What are the ramifications of the experiments? What are the ethics of the experiments? Any other thoughts and opinions about the experiments.  What ways are experiments successful?  Can you think of an experiment you would want to conduct?

i thank these are very similar due to that they are both based om emotional stress on somebody els. what made these expariments great was that they showed us how we would act in a controlled environment makeing us face what people would really do in sertine situations. while the ethics may seam harsh all the percipients could leave at any time and would have much knowledge to gain from the experiment. i believe these experiment was successful do to the fact that they have shown us how bad people can be and  how quickly people could fall to rule and control. I would like to do a experiment to see what a person would rather do after high school go to college work force or military and see if they would have chose the same path 30 years down the road. but only if they know what it would  be like if they did all three with out ageing. the problem with this is that this can not be done do to time.

I have worked in low paying jobs before from McDonalds in High school to Dunbar Armored as a temp job and I found the less you make the harder you work.

2. Ehrenreich claims that most well-off people            

in the United States are dependent on low wage

workers. What do you think she

means by this?

That the well of people use the waiter to bring them food and the maid to clean their rooms and the farmer to pick their food, while they spend their lives being serviced by low income people.

3. Do you think most people with jobs at

Wendy’s or Wal-Mart have a real chance to

enroll in college and to work toward a different

career? Why or why not?

I believe that a person that has a low income job can go to college but more than likely will not be able to support them self’s and work at the same time. The common worker will have to have one job for school, one job for living expenses, and still might not make enough money for both and work a total of 80 hours plus a week, while the student that has someone pay for school will work up to 40 hours a week. It is possible for a worker from a low income to attended college, however many people cannot handle the work load and be successful in both at the same time.
